The City of Ashland is accepting applications for the position of FLEET MAINTENANCE/SOLID WASTE SUPERINTENDENT
Public Works Department, Fleet Maintenance/Solid Waste Division
Supervisor: Public Works Director
Supervises: All Division Employees
Pay: Starting at $25.224/ hour
Class Characteristics: Under general administrative direction, plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and evaluates all activities and programs of the divisions; performs related work as required.
General Duties and Responsibilities: Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates and evaluates all activities and programs of the division. Directs and supervises all activities of division personnel including matters such as evaluations, training, and scheduling. Ensures preparation and maintenance of accurate records and reports. Ensures refuse collection, transport and disposal, complies with regulations and ordinances including maintaining a clean and safe work environment. Establishes routes for refuse collection and ensures citizens are informed of changes. Assigns priority for emergency vehicles. Determines extent of repairs to be made, estimates costs, ensures that work orders are processed. Determines tests to be conducted on repair equipment. Inspects work in progress and completed projects. Administers the city's preventive maintenance program for vehicles and equipment. Obtains quotes from vendors and ensures adequate inventory is maintained. Assists in preparing specifications for equipment. Inspects and assists mechanic work in progress and completed projects. Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent supplemented by five (5) years of directly related experience, including two (2) years administrative or supervisory experience.
Certification/Licensing Requirements: A.S.E. automotive certification is preferred, not required. Graduation from vocational school with mechanical specialization is preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid commercial driver’s license within the initial probationary period as a condition of continued employment in this class.
Availability: Must be able to respond to calls in emergency situations at any time.
Overtime Provision: Exempt.
